What is the difference between hair thickening and hair extension?

The term hair thickening refers to an addition to the hair that leads to additional volume and usually does not exceed the natural hair length.
If your hair is too thin, hair thickening can help to achieve more fullness.
This involves adding extensions to your existing hair. This can be done with as few as 20 strands, but usually 40-80 are used.
With hair extensions, however, the hair is extended with approximately 100-160 strands.
Here we offer flat rates wherever possible, which is an advantage for the customer.

Are extensions harmful to hair?

Modern, professional hair extensions and thickenings are harmless to your natural hair. The method used is less important than a clean and conscientious approach to ensure your natural hair is not damaged. It's equally important to follow the care instructions and, if possible, keep your free follow-up appointment. This way, you'll be on the safe side.

How long does hair extension or thickening last?

Hair extensions could theoretically last a year. However, it's recommended to remove the strands every 3-5 months (or a little longer in some cases) and re-insert them if necessary. During this time, depending on the hair cyclical shedding cycle, some of your own hair will fall out, sometimes in greater quantities, sometimes in smaller quantities. Natural hair growth also occurs. This means that the strands should be removed before they become tangled, which would be difficult to remove later.

What are the waiting times? Can I book an appointment spontaneously?

Waiting times are usually 2-4 weeks.
Walk-ins are unfortunately not possible. The initial consultation will take place at our studio in Wohlen and costs only CHF 40. This amount will, of course, be deducted from your hair extension bill.
We'll discuss your wishes and then select the hair together. The selected hair may need to be ordered or pre-processed, or both.
We'll then arrange a binding appointment. A deposit of CHF 150-300 is due in advance to secure the appointment.

How long does it take to work in the extensions?

A complete hair extension takes between 3 – 4 hours, a thickening takes 1-2 hours.

How long does your own hair have to be at least to be able to have hair extensions?

Your natural hair should have a minimum length of 10 cm on the top layer; it can be slightly shorter on the sides and back to ensure the connection points are well covered. However, this varies from case to case and will be assessed during the initial consultation. The longer your natural hair, the more natural the hair extensions will look.

Can hair extensions also be worn on fine hair?

Extensions can also be performed on fine hair. We make sure to use more of your own hair per strand, as needed, or to integrate finer strands so that the hair can support the extensions. However, we advise against extensions for very fine, thinning hair or those with scalp conditions. It is essential to discuss all these aspects during your individual consultation. If you have fine hair, only entrust it to a professional with extensive experience. We would be happy to advise you!

Can you see the joins in a ponytail or updo?

No. The connections are attached in such a way that your own hair covers them, even when styled up.

Can the hair be used a second time?

Yes, our hair is of high quality and can therefore be used multiple times.

Does the hair slip out of the modules?

Occasionally, depending on how quickly the scalp becomes oily, individual strands of hair may slip out, or this can also happen if the client uses unsuitable products. We offer our clients the option of reinserting any fallen strands free of charge within two months.

Can I style extensions with a curling iron or straightener?

Basically yes, but of course, caution is advised. Try to minimize the heat stress on the extensions. Since they are made of real hair, they can be styled without any problems. Just make sure the connecting modules don't come into contact with the curling iron, as this will melt them and compromise the bond.

How are extensions removed?

The connection points are loosened with a special lotion tailored to the composition of the modules. The extensions can then be easily removed. This removal process is gentle on your natural hair.

What is rebonding?

Send or bring the removed strands back to us. They will then be cleaned, refilled, and rebonded. If you're in-person, our method allows us to rebond and reattach the removed strands on-site the same day. This eliminates the need for waiting.

What are the benefits of extensions?

  • More self-confidence, more charisma and security in everyday life!
  • Chemical-free color accents with color highlights
  • More volume and fullness in the hair
  • More styling options
  • Easy handling, without much effort.

What hair quality is used at extremehair.ch?

At extremehair.ch, we rely on our own brand "ExtremeHair," which is characterized by the highest quality and authenticity. The hair we work with comes primarily from Europe and is mostly untreated. This ensures its naturalness and durability. However, to offer a wider range of colors and accommodate individual customer requests, we now also use gently colored hair that still meets our strict quality standards. A key quality feature of our "ExtremeHair" products is the intact cuticle. This means that our hair does not need to be artificially sealed.
